I was walking around an old abandoned warehouse the other day and happened upon this colorful window. All I had with me was my 3mp kodak point and shoot that I use for work, but I had to get a picture of it.

As David Pogue notes in his article:

“…imagine if you could get online anywhere you liked — in a taxi, on the beach, in a hotel with disgustingly overpriced Wi-Fi — without messing around with cellular modems. What if you had a personal Wi-Fi bubble, a private hot spot, that followed you everywhere you go?

Incredibly, there is such a thing. It’s the Novatel MiFi 2200, available from Verizon starting in mid-May ($100 with two-year contract, after rebate). It’s a little wisp of a thing, like a triple-thick credit card. It has one power button, one status light and a swappable battery that looks like the one in a cellphone. When you turn on your MiFi and wait 30 seconds, it provides a personal, portable, powerful, password-protected wireless hot spot.

The MiFi gets its Internet signal the same way those cellular modems do — in this case, from Verizon’s excellent 3G (high-speed) cellular data network. If you just want to do e-mail and the Web, you pay $40 a month for the service (250 megabytes of data transfer, 10 cents a megabyte above that). If you watch videos and shuttle a lot of big files, opt for the $60 plan (5 gigabytes). And if you don’t travel incessantly, the best deal may be the one-day pass: $15 for 24 hours, only when you need it. In that case, the MiFi itself costs $270.”

In my grandfather's garage there is a wall... The screw wall. It is an entire wall of little bottles full of nails, screws, washers, nuts, bolts, and fasteners. All of them are sorted by type and have been saved over the past couple decades. This wall will blow your mind.

This tree covers the majority of my grandparent's side yard, it is one of the largest oak trees I have ever seen. I like to think of this tree as our family tree because it has watched over my family for the past 40 years. I bet it has some amazing stories to tell.

While wandering around my grandparent's back yard I came across this red shed. Only one side of it was red and RED it was. I just wonder what made them think that it was time to paint one side of the shed... and why red?

My grandfather's house is like a museum. I think people would probably pay an admission fee to wander the amazing pathways that create the maze that is his backyard... if they only knew it was there. My next few pictures will be of his "exhibits" because they are too amazing to not be seen.

SAN FRANCISCO — There is a new common symptom of the flu, in addition to the usual aches, coughs, fevers and sore throats. Turns out a lot of ailing Americans enter phrases like “flu symptoms” into Google and other search engines before they call their doctors.

That simple act, multiplied across millions of keyboards in homes around the country, has given rise to a new early warning system for fast-spreading flu outbreaks, called Google Flu Trends.

Tests of the new Web tool from Google.org, the company’s philanthropic unit, suggest that it may be able to detect regional outbreaks of the flu a week to 10 days before they are reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
