Unemployment Rates & Other Public Data Now Comparable in Google
Google unveiled a new search tool this week that allows users to search for public data and receive it at the top of their searches. As shown above, this data can be drilled into and segmented as a Google Interactive Chart. Google has been using this charting technology to produce dynamic, information packed visuals since it acquired Trendalyzer two years ago.
It’s recommended that users search for terms such as “carbon emissions” or “unemployment rates” followed by a geographical area.
A search for “unemployment rates va” wielded the new statistic tool at the top of my search results, as shown below.
The data shown in your search results currently comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Division, but Google plans to expand the data set to include much more information across expanded resources.

After more research it looks like currently you can search for [unemployment rate] or [population] only, until they expand the data set.
